How to play musical statues
The rules of the greatest party game ever invented, plus tips for kids, weddings, and teens.
The rules
- Pick a song. Any song works. Loud, upbeat, everyone-knows-it songs work best.
- Everyone dances while the music plays. No standing still to game the system.
- Stop the music without warning. The judge (or musical-statues.com) freezes it.
- Everyone freezes. Perfectly still. No wobbling, no giggling, no scratching.
- Anyone who moves is out. Judge's decision is final. Sent to the "out" corner.
- Repeat until one player is left. That player wins.
Age tips
- Under 5: use freestyle mode. Freeze windows of 6–8 seconds are plenty.
- 5–10: classic rules. Announce names when someone's out — kids love the drama.
- Teens: shorten freezes to 2–3 seconds. It gets savage.
- Adults: weddings, birthdays, house parties. Judge harshly.
Variations
- Freestyle: no elimination, just freeze for fun.
- Themed poses: judge shouts a theme mid-freeze. Best pose survives.
- Team statues: if any teammate moves, the whole team is out.
- Endless mode: keep going until one person is left.
